As the WV Jags gear up for an exciting new season, the team proudly welcomes Bryan Fraser, affectionately known as “Coach Drake,” as their Head Coach. With a decade of coaching experience and a rich background in basketball at all levels, Coach Drake brings unparalleled passion and expertise to the Jaguars. His journey, spanning from youth programs to professional leagues, reflects a career built on hard work, mentorship, and an unwavering commitment to the game.
Bryan’s coaching career began in 2014 in Reno, Nevada, with the Jam on It Basketball Academy under the guidance of the late Matt Williams. Bryan credits Williams for helping him channel his competitive energy into inspiring young athletes. “That’s when it all took off,” he recalls. From there, his career flourished as he coached elite teams on the Nike EYBL Circuit, including the prestigious Oakland Soldiers and Rose City Rebels. His work with these renowned programs connected him to the highest levels of talent, producing players who have gone on to professional careers.
The opportunity to coach in The Basketball League (TBL) was another significant milestone. In his second season with the TBL Summer League, Coach Drake led his team to win the Summer League’s $10,000 grand prize. His success caught the attention of WV Jags owner Marion Clark, who recognized Coach Drake’s potential to elevate the team. “Bryan comes from a strong basketball pedigree that extends all the way to the NBA and NBA G-League,” Clark noted. “Having him in our organization will not only help us propel forward, but he has a very strong commitment to youth and helping them reach their full potential.”
When asked about the values that guide him, Coach Drake shared a list that underscores both his dedication to the sport and his holistic approach to coaching: Dedication, Hard work, Loyalty, Honesty, Community, Youth, and Passion. He holds a deep appreciation for the “Togetherness” that basketball fosters, emphasizing that there’s “no better game on earth.” For Coach Drake, basketball is more than a sport—it’s a community, and he brings this spirit of unity and purpose to his role with the Jaguars.
With the motto “The Standard is the Standard,” Coach Drake aims to establish a winning culture and a deep sense of accountability among players. “I’m coming with a fresh mindset for the season and a blank canvas,” he said. For him, success will be measured by the team’s commitment to the grind and their growth as a cohesive unit. “We are only as good as we show up to be,” he shared, underscoring the importance of relentless effort, personal responsibility, and the passion he brings to every game.
At the heart of Coach Drake’s approach is his belief in camaraderie and creating an environment where each player feels like part of a family. His main core values for the Jaguars this season include Compassion, Accountability, Healthy Competition, Personal Growth, Wellness, Community, and Equality. By fostering an open and inclusive team environment, Coach Drake hopes to build a brotherhood that embodies the spirit of resilience and teamwork.
With Bryan “Coach Drake” Fraser at the helm, the WV Jags are poised to become more than just a team—they’re set to become a powerful force in the community, exemplifying unity, passion, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. As he embarks on his 10th year of coaching, Coach Drake’s experience, connections, and love for the game promise to lead the Jaguars into a future marked by growth, grit, and success.
