Hailing from Houston, Texas, Tayvion Johnson’s journey in basketball has been marked by determination, resilience, and a commitment to excellence. His love for the game carried him through the highs and lows of his career, marking achievements at every stage.
Starting his collegiate journey at Midwestern State University in 2018, Tayvion made an immediate impact, becoming the first freshman in almost a decade to start for the program—a testament to his dedication and skills. “It was an honor to start as a freshman,” Tayvion shared, “and it set the foundation for me to push myself and reach for the next level.”
Known for his competitive drive and track record of success, Tayvion brings talent and championship experience to the Jaguars lineup.
From there, Tayvion’s winning streak continued. In the 2019–2020 season at Angelina College, he and his teammates won the Region XIV South Zone Championship and the Region XIV Athletic Conference. “That year was unforgettable,” he said. “Our team’s chemistry and commitment to each other fueled our success.”
Later, after transferring to Texas A&M Kingsville, Tayvion helped secure back-to-back LSC South Zone Championships in 2020 and 2021. His college career is a testament to his strong court presence and dedication to teamwork—qualities that make him a valuable addition to the Jaguars.
After college, Tayvion entered the professional basketball scene, joining the Wichita Skykings for the 2023–2024 season in the TBL. Reflecting on his time there, Tayvion said, “Playing in Wichita taught me so much about discipline and adapting to the professional pace. I learned a lot from my teammates and the supportive community there.”
Tayvion is excited about his journey in Oregon and has clear goals for his growth on and off the court. “This year, I’m looking forward to expanding my game in every way I know I can,” he shared. “My goal is to help the team and program succeed both on the court and within the community.”
Tayvion also plans to connect with youth and residents across the Willamette Valley, sharing his journey to inspire others. “I want to show people that you don’t have to start in the biggest cities or even the most talented teams to succeed. It’s about having a goal for yourself and wanting better for everyone around you. Success can mean helping someone build their mindset, and I feel my experiences give me a unique opportunity to connect with the youth and people my age or older.”
Marion Clark, owner of the WV Jags, expressed his excitement about Tayvion joining the roster. “Tayvion has a history of winning, and his drive to succeed aligns perfectly with what we’re building here. He’s an asset to our team, and I look forward to seeing him help lead us in the 2025 season.”
With his experience, tenacity, and commitment, Tayvion Johnson is set to be a powerful presence for the Jaguars this season. Welcome to the Willamette Valley, Tayvion!
