The Willamette Valley Jaguars are thrilled to announce the signing of Dominic Guthre, a talented young player ready to make his mark in professional basketball. Born and raised in Dexter, Michigan, Dominic’s journey in the sport began at an early age, igniting a passion for the game that has only grown over the years.
Dominic’s love for basketball took root when he first picked up a ball at just four years old. Playing year-round throughout his childhood, he honed his skills and developed a competitive spirit that would serve him well in the years to come. During his high school career, he had the opportunity to compete against some of the best talents in the nation, including Emoni Bates. Despite being a consistent presence on the court, Dominic never imagined that his basketball journey would lead him to a professional career.
After graduating high school in 2021, Dominic took a different path than many of his peers, opting not to pursue college basketball. Instead, he found himself drawn to semi-professional leagues like the MBL, BML, and PBL. His journey began with the Detroit Panthers, where he played for a year before entering the BSL draft in Detroit in 2023. Dominic was selected as a first-round pick by the Windsor Express but faced an unexpected setback when he was released before training camp began.
Undeterred, he continued to chase his dreams and entered the TBL draft, where he was selected as the 32nd overall pick by the Jamestown Jackals. After a successful season, he took his talents to Tijuana, where he continued to compete at a high level.
Dominic’s basketball resume extends beyond traditional 5v5 play. He has also competed in high-level FIBA 3×3 tournaments across the country, including cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Washington, Louisville, and even at the Golden State Arena. His experiences in these tournaments have allowed him to face some of the top teams in the nation, including Olympic team members, further solidifying his skills and competitive edge.
As he joins the WV Jags, Dominic expresses excitement about the new opportunities that await him. “I’m looking forward to playing in a different conference with a new group of players who can hopefully become like family to me,” he shares. “I’ve heard so many great things from different coaches and players about how things are done here, and I really admire the focus and drive of the ownership. I feel we have the same aspirations.”
Marion Clark, owner of the WV Jags, is equally enthusiastic about Dominic’s addition to the team. “I am very excited to see Dominic’s shot-making ability,” Clark says. “I’ve watched him at the draft last year and at Vegas this summer. We have been in contact throughout the offseason, and I think he will be a great add for this year’s team and for the Valley itself as we prioritize winning and character.”
Dominic’s story serves as an inspiration to many—proving that the path to success is not always linear. “It’s a nice story when people realize that I played in high school but was stuck at the center position and didn’t go to college to play,” he reflects. “I’m about to turn 21, so I’m still relatively young, yet I’m able to chase my dream of playing professional basketball because I believed I could, and the people around me did as well. The amazing opportunity that the TBL provides for people like me is invaluable.”
With his determination, skill set, and fresh perspective, Dominic Guthre is poised to make a significant impact on the court this season. The WV Jags are thrilled to have him on board and look forward to seeing him shine in the upcoming games. Welcome to the team, Dominic!
See You On the Court!
